The Boys Next Door Simon Romantic Comedies Jennifer Echols Books
This is my first Jennifer Echols book and as I'm writing this, I've already started Endless Summer as I can't seem to get enough of this fun, quirky, fast paced, series. I know this will be shocking to some, as I'm not the type to dive into romantic-comedy book, but Jennifer Echols has done a fantastic job at making me fall in love with her writing and with this story, The Boys Next Door, as all of the characters feel realistic, and I felt that I was getting a glimpse into their lives. I don't know what I enjoyed more, the romantic part of the story or the close friendships Lori has with her brother and his friends, the Vader brothers, Cameron, Sean and Adam.Jennifer's writing felt so natural that the humor and the guys' friendships felt real. It made for a quick, enjoyable read. Lori's voice is one I really enjoyed. She was someone I related to, as she is a complete tomboy, used to being "one of the guys" and now finds herself trying to be more girly, but not sure really how to go about doing that. Luckily her friend Tammy gives her a few pointers. Lori wants to reveal more of her womanly side to get the attention of Sean, whom she's had a crush on since they were little. Lori & Will have grown up with the Vader brothers and getting his attention is harder than Lori excepts.
Through the course of the story, we see a long standing brotherly feud between Sean and Adam, and add in a few twists with Lori mixed in the middle of and you've got a romantic drama/comedy. For Lori, it's much easier for her to show off her talent wake boarding with the boys on the lake, than it is for her to share her feelings and realize who she really has a summer crush on. I liked Lori a lot, as she is the girl next door, the one who's always hung out around the guys, and never been thought of more than "one of them" or so she thinks.
I really loved Adam's character. He's far from perfect, and more of an in-depth character as his emotions throughout out the story jumped out at me more than the other guys. He takes risks, doesn't have fear, and being the youngest of 3 boys, he's developed a silent inner strength that slowly came through, through out the story.
I love the book's setting. Alabama, on a lake, in the summer time. It's a perfect setting for this story. If you're looking for a fast paced, engaging read, be sure to pick up Endless Summer, as this book includes both The Boys Next Door and the sequel Endless Summer together. It will save you the hassle of running back to the story to pick up the sequel.

The Boys Next Door Simon Romantic Comedies Jennifer Echols Books Reviews
This a fun read for anyone who just wants a good time. The girl in this story has her heart set on catching the eye of the boy next door with the help of her best friend, his younger bother. However, she never quiet does and never realizes that the best friend is really the one for her. She does a lot of crazy teenage things to get his attention all the while starting to fall of the right brother. This a great read out by the pool!
Just as I was really beginning to enjoy the story, it ends abruptly. I see now there's a more expensive combo version with the next novel "Endless Summer" but some reviews say that ended abruptly as well. I like my happy endings rounded out with the hea all settled down so this one didn't do it for me. The humor was good, loved Adam, can't believe heroine all of a sudden "fell in love" after discovering hero has the hots for it, just too soon for me.
The Boys Next Door is a short and fun read that makes you smile the whole time. Although it may not seem like a very well written book, it is and it really surprised me. I liked all the realistic plots and turns in the story because it really made me feel like it could happen to me and it was just set up really nicely. This book was overall full of emotion, humor, love triangles, family incidents, and memories that do stay with you your whole life. It's a story of realization and awakening that makes you feel every word.
I liked the idea of this book because it was very much like mine and I felt like I could put myself in the shoes of the main character. The stupid fights and little drama that went on wasn't something that you could never see yourself in; it was little things that annoyed you and helped you come to conclusions and every incident that happened was written in such a realistic way I could not have imagined it being better.
The only thing I disliked about this book was the cover art. If they would have chosen another cover, I'm sure more customers would have bought it. Let's face it; we do judge by covers; presentation is important, and for a story like this, I think it deserved much more than it was given.
Very well written and worth it)
What an amazing book! The summary on the cover is pretty much right on, so I won't repeat it. Within the first few paragraphs I was already laughing out loud (no really, my husband looked at me like "Okaaayy..."). I've read a few other books from this author and every one I have read I couldn't put down. This one was no exception, especially when at times I was like "Seriously?! Agh!", and then at others I was saying "Oh yay yay yay yay!". If you want a simple refreshing book that will make you at times a little sad, a little more mad, and then make you laugh out loud, this a book that can do that. I actually can't beleive the price was so low on such a good book.
My daughter apparently has great taste in writers! Jennifer Echols has another hit here!
Pretending to hook up with her neighbor & friend- Adam to make his girlfriend and his brother Sean jealous is a recipe for disaster right away when their first kiss gives Lori tingles...........
This story moves along at the perfect pace to the inevitable---but will Lori be happy if she gets what she wants? Maybe Adam is becoming more than a good friend. You actually want Adam to become her real boyfriend-they're practically made for each other. And those kissing lessons on the dock will put goose bumps on every one who reads this book. I couldn't put it down & I didn't want it to end-two of my favorite joys of reading!!!
Great Job Jennifer for capturing these wonderful characters & kudos for continuing the story--My family couldn't get enough of Lori & Adam & Crew! Here's to Endless Summer in 2010!
