A terrorist bomb explodes during a South Korean celebration of the anniversary of the election of its first president.

Alarms are raised in Washington. No one is claiming responsibility.

The first suspect is North Korea. Could it be making a power play against South Korea and unification? If so, how will the U.S. respond? Paul Hood, Director of the Op-Center, must answer these questions. The Op-Center, a largely autonomous new agency which takes on the government's toughest security problems, is only six months old, and has never been given a foreign crisis until now.

Hood's team, which includes a general, a former ambassador, a psychologist, and a computer specialist, tries to find the solution, only to discover a factor that could change the new world order.

From the Compact Disc edition.

Since this is the first book in a series, it takes time to get all the new names and functions working. This story begins in South Korea.. Op center, of course, is headquartered in the US, but like many agencies in government, it officially does not exist. A bombing at a celebration in Seoul looks to be the work of the DPRK, but no one is really sure, which makes this a great story!

Tom Clancy OpCenter Tom Clancy OpCenter #1 (Audible Audio Edition) Tom Clancy Steve Pieczenik Jeff Rovin Michael Kramer Random House Audio Books Reviews

A lot of action with a good amount of suspense. A decent thriller but not my liking. Still worth a read.
There’s a lot of politics involved, and it struck me that a lot of what’s said about the President in this book could be said about any President. Interesting, since this book was written in 1995 or so. Lots of action.
At the outbreak of the October Crisis in ’62 , not all the missiles had been sent to Cuba. Besides, none of those other warheads has been recalled. Standing on these supposition, Jeff Rovin created a suspenseful novel of psychological warfare. When an Iranian defector had distracted Americans’ attention from the Iranian prosecutor’s ambition, the Op-Center’s International Facial Scan program detected a warning flag of an old Russian gunrunner. Tracing scarce connection between two incidents, Chase Williams conjectured a true story behind the scenes. The Iranians and the Russians steadily moved forward to the countdown. Describing the development in Iran, Russia, and the USA, alternately, is thrilling as if seeing the 24 movies. The operation Anadyr didn’t end well, but Op-Center at least blew an Iranian opportunity and aborted the crisis. The final chapter suggests a turf-war among concerned authorities shortly afterwards. “For Honor” is a credo of Chase who would never put self before country, career before patriotism. The story directed a spotlight on three octogenarians. General Ghasemi has wished his daughter’s success, come what may to his life. Konstantin Bolshakov has been unshakable in protecting his son, notwithstanding his hostility against his father. And Dr.Adoncia Bermejo has never lost her passion for the future of her country. They also have been struggling “For Honor.”
Not so sure that this was a work from Clancy. Writing style was really different from the Jack Ryan, John Clark & Campus series'. This book did not hold my interest very well. Poor character portrayals and the story drifted too much. Don't think I'll be reading any more from this series. Big disappointment.
This was a good story, but obviously not written by Clancy. I'm surprised he let his name get put on the cover. The details concerning the characters and some of the events destroy the whole fabric of the story. For example, most of the enlisted personnel in the story are cited as being "Privates". In real life, guys with those kinds of knowledge and skills would be senior NCO's. This applies to both the North and South Korean forces and the the US military. Also the team leader would not be a 25-year old Lt. Col. Maybe a 35-year old, but not 25. The author also shows his general lack of knowledge of things military by indiscriminately labeling all military forces the Army. The Army does not operate C-9A Nightengale or C-141 aircraft. The author's lack of knowledge of his characters took the edge off the whole story.
I have been an avid follower of the op center series and can say that I enjoyed this one as well. The only thing missing in my opinion was more action.
A very good book, I had a hard time getting anything else done except read this book. This book gives you the insight of the problem we have with North Korea and some of the other pertinent Islands in the area with their military's. It shows the balancing act that the US Military has with coping in that part of the world and how easy it is to manipulate the events in the area. This Tom Clancy series should be required reading for any one running for the position of President of the United States of America. Better yet, for every one that is old enough to vote in our elections.
Since this is the first book in a series, it takes time to get all the new names and functions working. This story begins in South Korea.. Op center, of course, is headquartered in the US, but like many agencies in government, it officially does not exist.
