I’m enchanted by this medieval romance from the opening paragraph right up to the end. The hero and heroine are well rounded characters and the plot is well thought out and true to the times. I love when an author can transport me to a different time and place -- Stella Marie Alden does just that with her entertaining love story. Marcus is truly a knight in shining armor and Ann is a strong willed, smart, and resourceful young woman. I think Stella Marie Alden has a hit with her debut romance and I can’t wait to read more of her talented writing.Tags : How to Train Your Knight: A Medieval Romance Novel - Kindle edition by Stella Marie Alden. How to Train Your Knight A Medieval Romance Novel edition by Stella Marie Alden Romance eBooks Reviews
I must begin by admitting I'm not much of a medieval fan. It's not an era of history I know much about, so I usually avoid those books. By chance, I obtained and read Stella Marie Alden's novel and found myself immediately drawn in, prejudices aside. It was very, very good! The main characters, Ann and Marcus, needed to overcome daunting difficulties (spoiler! He was sent to kill her!), but somehow, their destinies aligned and a beautiful love was able to be recognized. "How to Train Your Knight" definitely became a story that made it clear that medieval just might be something I need to be reading
What a great book! Well though out, developed, and a plot line that really brings you into the period setting. The author is a kind of Dan Brown of Historical Romance Novels; really involved! A love story for the ages, with a powerful female heroine, and some seriously sensual scenes with the dreamy "Beast". Can't wait for the next!
This was the first medieval romance I've read and was pulled in from the first chapter. It was hard to put it down. If all medieval romances, are as good as this I'm hooked. I look forward to more stories by Stella Alden.
First, I kind of liked the story - the plot - a not too likely romance but that's ok. The sex scenes weren't bad.
BUT there's that old adage write about what you know. I'm not a scholar, by any means, but I do find it very distracting to read all the anachronisms and inaccuracies. And I understand that most of these books don't have an editor, but it would be so nice to have words or phrases used accurately. I can understand using archaic words to "set the stage" in a historical novel, but then be consistent. Don't throw in a "thou" or two and then revert back to "you" without even passing by thee or thy. If the hero is a knight, fine, but don't expect a Knight Templar to be getting married to anyone, reputed murderess or not - the Templars were a monastic order, i.e. like nuns or priests - no weddings for them, whatever they might do in their spare sinful time. I could go on with examples...
This book was simply a wonderful read. Stella Marie Alden did a wonderful job bringing a great romance to medieval times. Her heroine was feisty and truly had a mind of her own but did not overwhelm the story. The hero was wonderfully patient and really grew on me! I loved both of these characters. Imagine, being ordered, by the king, to marry someone you did not know, or only knew by reputation! Stella did a great job keeping her story true to the times with terrific detail and wonderful secondary characters. Beautiful story, lovely romance.
I look forward to the next book when it comes out.
How to Train Your Knight is a delightful Medieval tale by Stella Marie Alden whose writing style and larger-than-life characters are reminiscent of romances written by Kathleen Woodiwiss.
In the year 1276, Sir Marcus Blackwell (aka Sir Beast) is a returning Templar Knight from the Crusades. Chiseled, war-weary and hardhearted he has but one command to yet fulfill for his liege, King Edward – marry widow Lady Ann, claim her lands and then execute her for murder and/or witchcraft. Seems easy enough until it isn't. Lady Ann is a naive', beautiful, brave, defiant young woman. What she does not yet know, she is in need of a champion to protect and defend her. Theirs an iffy match with sexual chemistry and tension (that's not vulgar), making their road very rocky as they fight and love their way to HEA. Their story is filled with action, suspense, intrigue and numerous enemies...and then there is the king whose command he was sent to obey. Opps!
I enjoy reading this time period and liked the writing style of this author and this was my first time reading her work.
I enjoyed both character's and even though there were some misunderstandings, they didn't go on forever, which I can't tell you how annoyed I get. When author's draw out the misunderstanding, it ruins the flow for me. But in this story, I wasn't screaming at my e-reader saying ENOUGH ALREADY, nope felt right.
There is passionate lovemaking and lots of it, but not vulgar in my mind. Since I loved both the H/h when they came together (within marriage), it was lovemaking and not lust/sex.
We get an epilogue 5 years in the future, which I always love to find out what the future of a couple holds. No cliffhanger, some suspense, and interesting character's and humor thrown in too.
I do recommend this read, some parts of the lives of our h and how she ran her people for the time period, was out of place and to forward thinking, that I took off 1/2 star . (LJB)
